Mrs. Martha Ernst Goes To Her Reward

With Her Husband, She Homesteaded Here in 1871. Cancer the Cause of Death

Mrs. Martha Ernst, one of the oldest settler in this section passed to her eternal reward last Friday at the home of' her daughter, Mrs. Russ Heisler, Blencoe. Mrs. Ernst has been seriously ill for the past several months and her death was not unexpected. She has been at the home of her daughter since last July.

The body was brot here for burial Sunday evening and the interment made Monday in the Heisler cemetery.

Marth Elizabeth Lawrence was born at Bloomington, Ill, Oct. 29, 1841, and at the age of eleven came to Muscatine, Ia. with her, parents. She was married to Joseph Ernst Sept. 29, 1859. Mr. Ernst died August 20, 1899. Eleven children were born to them, three of them died in infancy and one, Francis died at the age of eighteen.

The seven surviving children are John of Laport e, Minn., Mrs. Isidore Uhl of Mapleton, Mrs. Charles Tryon of Bancroft, Neb., Mrs. Charles Buoy, Decatur, Neb., Andrew, Muscatine, la., Mrs. Edward Fletcher and Mrs. Rosa Heisler of Blencoe.

Since 1871 Mrs. Ernst has resided here with the exception of a few years spent with her daughter in Nebraska. She was especially well known to the older generation.
