22 January 1953W. H. Edgar, a long-time resident of Monona County died Thursday evening, Jan. 15, 1953, at the Odd Fellows home at Mason City, Iowa where he had made his home the last four years. He was active until the time of his death. He reached the age of 92 years, 2 months and 5 days.
Bill, as he was better known, moved, to Mapleton from Monroe, Wisconsin, about 60 years ago. During his lifetime he farmed and also worked for 16 years for the county on road maintenance. He was married to Harriett Marsh November 1, 1879. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Maude.
Survivors are a son, Jess, of Trempleau, Wis., a son-in-law, George Hollister of Smithland, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 1953 at St. John's Methodist church at Mapleton. Rev. Eugene Hancock officiated. Burial was in the Heisler cemetery at Mapleton with the Byers Walter funeral home in charge. Graveside Masonic services were conducted by Quarry Lodge No. 404.
Pallbearers were Andy Madsen, Lloyd Green, Joe Hayes, LeRoy Johnson, Chris McClatchey and Ed Champion.
