5 January 1989Claude "Boots" Eugene Dean, the son of George and Carrie (Claude) Dean, was born on January 19, 1912, a t Mapleton, Iowa, in Monona County.
Claude married Fern Herrington on August 13, 1934, in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Mapleton community and he also worked for the Barry and Collins Ford Garage in Mapleton, Iowa, for nine years and the, Welp and McCarten Road Construction of Fort Dodge. Iowa. They retired in 1979 and moved into Mapleton, Iowa.
"Boots" Dean died on Monday, December 26, 1988, at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after a long illness, having reached the age of seventy-six years, eleven months, and seven days.
Survivors include his wife, Fern; a daughter, Mrs. Ben (Ida) McClure of Onawa, Iowa: two sons, Jimmie of Lyons, Illinois, and Donald of Romeoville, Illinois; three brothers, Glen of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, Robert of Mapleton, Iowa, and Wilbur "Bill" of Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Brockelsby of Scandia, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Florence Leetch of Wylie, Texas, and Mrs. Dorothy Rose of Mapleton, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Services were held on Thursday, December 29, 1988, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Dick Krambeck officiating. The burial was in the Heisler Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa.
Pallbearers were David McGrain, Ron McGrain, Carl McGrain, Larry Hieber, Jerry Bumstead, and Richard Bumann.
