SIMEON E. COURTNEY DIES AT IDA GROVE

PIONEER OF THIS SECTION PASSES AWAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS — FUNERAL SERVICES HERE WEDNESDAY

Simeon E. Courtney, one of the pioneer residents of Monona County, died Monday at his home in Ida Grove: following an illness of many years. He was 78 years old.

Mr. Courtney was born in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1848. He moved to Andrew, Ia. with his parents in 1855, and was married in 1868 to Mary E. Zediker. They came to Mapleton in 1886 and made their home on a farm here until 16 years ago, when they moved to Ida Grove.

Mr. Courtney joined the Methodist church at Ida Grove in 1915. He was a man of very religious character. During the last year he had suffered constantly. Mr. Courtney was patient in his suffering and was cheerful until the very end, spending his evenings visiting with relatives and friends.

Deceased is survived by his widow, one brother, George Courtney, of Center Junction, la: two sisters, Mrs. Mary Madison, of Oregon City, Ore., and Mrs. Naomi Henderson, of Moline, Ill.

Mr. Courtney will be deeply missed by his widow, who had been his companion for 59- years, and who had been an untiring nurse during his long illness.

Funeral services were held in Mapleton Wednesday afternoon with services at the Mapleton church with Rev. George W. Dunn officiating. Burial was in Heisler cemetery.
