Leona Christine Cook, the daughter of Cornelius and Sophia Paulsen, was born February 27, 1912, near Schleswig, Iowa.

She came to the Mapleton community with her parents when a young girl, living here until moving to Sioux City about 1944. While living in the Mapleton community she belonged to the United Church of Christ here.

Mrs. Cook died at Cherokee February 4, 1967, after a lengthy illness at the age of 54 years, 11 months and 7 days.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday, February 7, 1967, at the Walter Chapel in Mapleton. Pastor Walter Stark of the United Church of Christ officiated. Burial was in Heisler cemetery at Mapleton under direction of the Walter Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Joe Bollig, Claude Dean, Louis Leisinger, Marion Rose, Leo Dean and Lawrence Otto.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Wilbur (Darlyne) Dean of Sioux City; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Paulsen of Ida Grove; one sister, Mrs. Andrew (Elsie) Goldsberry of Sioux City; two granddaughters and one great- granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband.
