Elaine K. Shook, 66, of Onawa passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Pastor Dennis Burns officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Elaine Kay was born April 18, 1946, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Marion C. and Dorothy M. (Dean) Rose. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1965.

Elaine married Tom Shook June 18, 1965, in Mapleton. They lived in Omaha, Neb., for two years before moving to Onawa in 1967.

She worked more than 20 years in the kitchen for West Monona Community School District in Onawa. She also worked at CasinOmaha near Onawa for several years.

Elaine was affiliated with St. John's Methodist Church in Mapleton. She served the Boy Scouts as a den mother, and she enjoyed the Wednesday Ladies' Night Out Group.

She loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed her Labrador retriever dogs, fishing, traveling, shopping thrift stores and collecting vacuums.

Survivors include her husband, Tom of Onawa; a daughter, Julee (Lee) Kirkpatrick of Onawa; three grandchildren, Austin Lee, Dawson Thomas and Shylee Elaine Kirkpatrick, all of Onawa; three sisters, Anita (Edward) Schelm of Mapleton, Phyllis (Larry) Johnson of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Betty (Bob) Halterman of Sergeant Bluff; two sisters-in-law, Joan Allen of Waite Park, Minn., and Nancy (Steve) Ost of Omaha; many nieces and nephews; and her special love, her white Labrador, Greta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeff Shook; two sisters, Gloria Armstrong and infant sister Claire; and a nephew, Bruce Schelm.

Elaine K. Shook, age 66, of Onawa passed away Aug. 16 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Elaine and Tom Shook were united in marriage on June 18, 1965, in Mapleton. They lived in Omaha, Neb., for two years before moving to Onawa in 1967.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeff Shook; two sisters, Gloria Armstrong and infant sister Claire; and nephew, Bruce Schelm.

Memorial services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, officiated by Pastor Dennis Burns. Burial followed in the Onawa Cemetery. No visitation was held. Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Honorary pallbearers were her nieces and nephews.
