April 07, 2012Hollis J. (Solberg) Hamilton, 91, of Salix died April 4, 2012, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Carla Johnsen officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Root Funeral Home (formerly Pearson Chapel) in Onawa.
Hollis J. (Solberg) Hamilton, daughter of Oscar and Hilda (Hedum) Solberg, was born on Dec. 30, 1920, in Moorhead, Iowa. She attended school in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School.
On Oct. 28, 1938, she was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Clinton Hamilton in Charter Oak, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Kathy, was born. Holly and her daughter made their home in Moorhead while Ted was in the military. After his discharge, the family moved to Onawa. On April 5, 1952, Ted died unexpectedly in a car accident. Holly raised Kathy in Onawa and she worked as a clerk for the grocery store that is now Fiesta until retiring in 1976. After her retirement, she moved to Salix with her daughter and family. On Jan. 31, 2011, Holly moved to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Holly enjoyed watching television, circle word books and most of all being with family. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa.
Holly is survived by her daughter, Kathy Kunze of Salix; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; five brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandson, Michael Kunze.
