Mrs. Mary Claude Buried Here Wed.

Former Resident and Mother of Mrs. George Dean Died in Fredric, Wisconsin

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Claude, 75-year-old former Mapleton resident and mother of Mrs. George Dean of Mapleton, who passed away Thursday of last week in the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Powell, in Fredric, Wis., were held here Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the Methodist church.

Rev. A. F. Schuldt, pastor of the church, officiated.

Interment was in Heisler cemetery under the direction of the Duschl Funeral home. Members of the Rebekah lodge were in charge of services at the graveside.

Six grandsons served as pallbearers.

Mrs. C. F . Griffin and Mrs. Paul A. Hollister sang "It Is Well with My Soul" and "Abide with Me." They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. William H. Thompson.

Mary Ellis Downing was born in Hamilton County, la., June 18, 1863. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity. She was married January 7, 1880 to Joseph Eugene Claude at Woolstock, l a. For seven years they lived in that vicinity and for seven years at Fayetteville, Ark. Later they came to Mapleton where they engaged in farming until 1906 when they retired and moved to Mapleton, remaining here until 1915 when they moved to Fredric, Wis. Mr. Claude passed away six years later and during the last several years Mrs. Claude has resided with her daughter.

Mrs. Claude was instrumental in organizing the Mapleton chapter of the Rebekah lodge and is a charter member of the chapter.

She is survived by four sons and five daughters, John Claude of Sioux City, Charles Claude of Bloomington, Ill., Joseph Claude of Centuria, Wis., George Claude of Cumberland, Wis., Mrs. Henry Edgington of Mason City. Mrs. Mary Ferdig of Fredric, Wis., Mrs. Ada Edgington of Cedar Rapids, la, Mrs. Dean of Mapleton and Mrs. Powell of Fredric, Wis.

She also is survived by 47 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 half brothers.

Claude and daughter, Lena, and Mr. and Mrs. Philippe Grandgeorge of Woolstock, l a., Mrs. Ada Edgington of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. William Powell, Mrs. Mary Ferdinand, Paul McKinney of Frederic, Wis., George Claude of Cumberland, Wis., Mrs. George Wason, Mr. and Mrs. John Claude and Mr. and Mrs. William Downing of Clarion, Ia., Mrs. Helen Burnett and Mrs. Pearl Hilloon and son of Webster, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. David Loux of Blairsburg, Ia., James Downing and Mr. and Mrs. John Claude and children, Gertrude and Leonard of Sioux City, Mrs. Joe Schutt of Eagle Glove, Mrs. Sophia Steinke of Waterloo, Paul Claude of Galt, Ia., Louie Claude of Goldfield, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dean of Castana, Charles Claude of Bloomington, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Edgington and Mrs. H.A. Pickard of Mason City, George Downing of Correctionville, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Downing and family of Oto and Prosper Claude of Woolster,Ia.
