MRS. BERTHA ELLEN BALES

Bertha Ellen Bales was born Sept 18, 1899 at Enid, Okla., and died Aug. 10, 1962 at St. George, Utah following a heart attack while enroute home from a vacation to Iowa. She was 62 years, 10 months and 22 days old.

Mrs. Bales resided in Oklahoma during her childhood. She was married to Charles A. Bales in 1919 at Mapleton. One daughter and five sons were born to this union.

After marriage she and her husband resided in the Mapleton community. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1943, and in 1944 she moved to Sioux City where she lived for eight years. For the last five years she had made her home with her children in Whittier, Cal., Mrs. Bales was a member of the Christian church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Mary) Scott of Sioux City, four sons, Eugene of Sioux City, Herman of Lancaster, Cal., Charles and James, both of Whittier, Cal., two brothers, Oscar and Eugene Doud both of Long Beach, Cal.; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Neill of Sioux City, Mrs. Pearl Meyers and Mrs. Martha Janizen both of Long Beach; 19 grandchildren . She was preceded i n death by her parents, husband, one son Virgil, and seven brothers and sisters.

Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 15, 1962 at the Church of Christ in Mapleton with Roger Haselquist officiating. Pallbearers were - Louis Leisinger, Ernest Shay, Art McCleerey, Earl Pauley, Harry Hopsecker and John Hinrickson. Burial was in Heisler cemetery under the direction of the Walter funeral home.
