Prominent Farmer and School Board Member Buried Thursday

Charles K. Blankenhorn, 6l year old prominent Mapleton farmer and member of the Mapleton Consolidated school board for many years, Passed away Tuesday morning in St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City

Death was caused from injuries suffered just 2 weeks before when he fell from a hayrack at his farm home 5 miles northwest of Mapleton, breaking 8 ribs and sustaining back injuries.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. George A. Osborn, pastor, in charge. The Byers Funeral home was in charge of burial In Grant cemetery near Ticonic

Pallbearers were Raymond Bittle, Albert Marten, Albert Ketelsen, Herman Ziems, Charles Kuhn’s and Frands Kafton.

Charles Ernest Blankenhorn, son of George and Augusta Blankenhorn, was born May 8, 1881, at Portis, Kan.

When a small boy he moved with his parents by covered wagon to Letts, Ia., where they resided for 2 years, moving to this community in the spring or 1885 to the John Wetzel farm west of Mapleton where he lived until his death- 60 years on the same place.

With the exception of 6 years, during which time he worked in the vicinity of Mapleton, he has operated the same farm since 1905.

He was united in marriage to Miss Lena Bauman of Rodney October 7, 1909.

For many years Mr. Blankenhorn took an active part in various work in the Mapleton community where he was one of its most prominent farmers.

He served on the AAA committee in Maple Township from the beginning of its organization more than 10 years ago.

He was a conscientious worker as a member of the Mapleton school board, seldom missing a meeting, and was always anxious to do all he could to improve this educational institution.

Mr. Blankenhorn was re-elected for his 4th 3-ycar term as a member of the Mapleton school board last March.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lena Blankenhorn; one son, Dale Blankenhorn, who operates the family farm; 1 sister, Miss Mabel Blankenhorn of Sioux City, and 3 brothers, John of Osmond, Nebr., George of Anthon and Fred of Smithland.
