Everett H. Koch, 91, of Mapleton died unexpectedly Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Scott Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton and Little Sioux Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9124 of Oto, Iowa. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Everett Albert Herman Koch was born to Otto and Blance (Craven) Koch on May 1, 1920, in Odell, Neb. Everett served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Alaska.

On June 19, 1944, he and Marion Ileen Peters exchanged marriage vows at St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer (Lizard Township), Iowa. Ileen passed away on Jan. 24, 2011. Everett farmed and sold Pete's Feed in Iowa and then retired in Mapleton.

He was an active member of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton and the VFW Post 9124 of Oto, Iowa. He enjoyed coffee at the Beef with his many friends.

Survivors left to lovingly remember Everett are his four children and their spouses, Marvin (Karen) Koch of Ute, Iowa, Duane (Kathy) Koch of Nora Springs, Iowa, Joann (Merlin) Feddersen of Battle Creek, Iowa, and Sheryl (John) Block of Olathe, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Koch of Alexandria Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arlo Koch of Beatrice, Neb.; a sister, Betty Kramer of Le Mars, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and good friends.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ileen; his son, Larry; three brothers, Harry, Percy, and Roy; and two sisters, Lula and Jessie.
