Shawn Lane Mercer, age 21, of Oyens, Iowa, formerly of Mapleton. Iowa died on Sunday, June 28, 1987, at his residence in Oyens, Iowa.

Services were held on Wednesday July 1, 1987 at 10:30 a.m. at the Walter Funeral Chapel in Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Mark Smeltzer officiating.

Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa. A prayer service was held at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, on Tuesday evening, June 30, 1987.

Shawn was born on April 3, 1966. to Donald and Joan (Beane) Mercer in Onawa. Iowa. He was raised in Mapleton. Iowa, and attended the Maple Valley School. He also lived in Danbury and LeMars. Iowa, before moving to Oyens, Iowa, recently. He worked for I.B.P. in Dakota City. Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his father and both grandfathers.

Survivors include his girlfriend. Christi Nagel and baby, Matthew; his mother, Joan Mercer of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Keri Dean of Danbury, Iowa, and Lori Mumford of Denver, Colorado; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Thelma Beane of Denver, Colorado; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Beryl Ondracek of Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Pallbearers were Scott Schmidt. Russ Schmidt. Randy Boysen. Jody Farmer. Robert Williams, and Randy Krueger.
