Jeane Leone Young, 88, of Whiting died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Root Funeral Home (formerly Pearson Chapel) in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Jocquelyn "Jackie" Girdner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Walthill, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Jeane Leone Young, the daughter of Lee and Maude (Farris) Pease, was born on July 5, 1923 in Hot Springs, S.D. At age five, Jeane was orphaned and raised by her sisters in Nebraska.

On Dec. 12, 1938, Jeane was united in marriage to Chester Frank Young in Wayne, Neb. To this union nine children were born, June, Sara, David, Dennis, Rosanne, Thomas, Julie, Danny and Robert. The couple lived in several communities before coming to Whiting in June 1980. Jeane was a homemaker, who enjoyed working in her garden and raising her family. In the early 1980s, the couple hosted foreign exchange students which led Jeane to travel to France and London.

Jeane loved to work in her flower beds, to read and in later years enjoyed the companionship of her cat. She volunteered many hours at Whiting Community School and Pleasant View Care Center. She was honored with the Volunteerism Award from the Governor of Iowa.

Jeane is survived by her children, Sara Thomas (Max) of Denison, Iowa, David Young (Ruth) of Pineville, Mo., Dennis Young (Mary Ellen) of Burney, Calif., Rosanne Van Etten (Peter) of Smithland, Iowa, Thomas Young (Susan) of Sioux City, Julie French (Bruce) of Meriden, Iowa, Danny Young of Omaha, and Robert Young (Teresa) of Crested Butte, Colo.; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and her companion, Pretty Kitty.

Jeane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester on Sept. 6, 1995; one daughter in infancy, June; five sisters; three brothers; and one grandson, Jamie Dyson.
