Richard “Dick” Thomas Collison, 76, of Onawa died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at his residence.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Rush Family Funeral Service in Onawa, with Elder Donnie Bothwell officiating. Burial will be in Grange Cemetery, Honey Creek, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army and Patriot Guard Freedom Riders.

Richard “Dick” Thomas was born on Nov. 3, 1935, in Sioux Township, Monona County, Iowa, the son of Bert and Anna (Wood) Collison. He grew up in the Little Sioux, Iowa, area. He attended school in Blencoe, Iowa, then transferred to Whiting, Iowa, where he graduated from Whiting High School.

After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 12, 1958, through May 12, 1960. He then returned to this area and farmed with his brother, Doug Collison, and later Delbert Collison. He was then employed by King Transfer in Onawa and then Sioux City Specialized Hauling.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Ilene Wright on July 20, 1984, at Christian Church in Little Sioux, Iowa.

He enjoyed reading, playing cards and board games. He was a very loving, giving man, and he enjoyed helping others. He always had a smile on his face.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Collison, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four children, Sonja Shepherd of Oklahoma City, Keith Massie of Monroe, North Carolina, Sherry (Jay) Ford of Edmond, Okla., and Serena (Dale) Deville of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jessie Massie, Jamey Taylor, and Spencer Shepherd; three brothers, Doug (Loretta) Collison, Gary (Loris) Collison, and Bert Junior (Connie) Collison; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Phyllis Collison; two nephews, Donald Collison and Matthew Collison; and a niece, Mary Collison.
