Della D. Wenger, 91, of Danbury passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 3 p.m. today at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Scott Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Della D. Wenger was born on Nov. 4, 1920, at home near Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Hulda (Schmidt) Shever. She grew up in the Oto and Danbury area, where she attended country school.

She married Fritz Plautz in 1939. The couple farmed and raised their two sons in rural Danbury. Fritz died in August 1971. In December 1973, Della married Dean Wenger and they made their home in Danbury. She worked at Maple Heights Nursing Home in the 1970s and also worked at Krueger's in Danbury for a time.

She was a very active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton along with the Ladies Aid. Della was a very patriotic person and served many years as an involved president of the American Legion Auxiliary Carlson-Frum Unit 336 in Danbury, often hosting the group meetings in her home.

Survivors include her husband, Dean; a daughter-in-law, Nadine Plautz of Danbury; two grandsons and their wives, Jeff and Christina Plautz of Sioux City, and Brian and Amanda Plautz of Danbury; one granddaughter, Terri Plautz of Sergeant Bluff; three great-grandchildren, Jamie and Adam Plautz of Danbury, and Alex Ehlers of Mapleton; one brother-in-law, Earl Wenger and one sister-in-law, Helen Pithan, both of Danbury; along with many nieces and nephews.

Della was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fritz; both of her sons, Veryl and Verdett Plautz; and a brother, Merlin Shever.

Della D. Wenger died August 6 in Mapleton at the age of 91 years, 9 months, 2 days.

Funeral service was Wednesday, August 8 at 3 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Rev. Scott Jensen officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Plautz, Brian Plautz,, Alex Ehlers, Tony Wenger, Matt Wenger and Greg Pithan. Message in music was by Karen Krusen, organist, with congregational singing of “On Eagles Wings” and “My Blood in Righteousness”

Visitation was Wednesday, August 8 from 1-3 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton.

Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton.

Everyone was invited and encouraged to return to the church basement for a time of sharing food and fellowship following the interment.

Armstrong Funeral Service Grant and Cindy Armstrong was in charge of the arrangements.
