July 07, 2012Marguerite A. Nelson, 83, of Mapleton died peacefully on July 5, 2012, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Revs. Brian McNamara and Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Marguerite Ann Nelson was born on Nov. 25, 1928, in Wynot, Neb., the daughter of Carl and Anna (Nygaard) Klanderud. She earned a teaching degree at Wayne State College. She taught for two years in a country school in Wynot and two years in Dixon, Neb.
On June 2, 1949, Marguerite married Lawrence Nelson in Wynot. They lived in the state of Nebraska in Dixon and Plainview and in Smithland, Iowa, before making their home in Mapleton.
Marguerite actively served in PEO, UMW, Eastern Star, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was in numerous card clubs and the Red Hatters, was a leader of the Girl and Boy Scouts, and was a member of the square dance club. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and multiple community activities.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Nelson of Mapleton; her children, Sharon Meleney of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Robert (Mary) Nelson of Marion, Iowa, and Rhonda (Dennis) Husak of St. Charles, Mo.; her brother, Lewis Klanderud of Omaha; and six grandchildren, Beth and Cory Nelson, R.J. and Tyler Meleney, and Codi and Kimber Husak.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; a baby brother; her sister, Dorothy Klanderud; a sister-in-law, Lucille Klanderud; and a nephew, Tim Klanderud.
