Wilma I. Neumann, 82, of Ute passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Emeritus Senior Living in Urbandale, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Marcus Manley officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 509 South Day Ave., in Ute. Wilma Ione Neumann was born on March 28, 1930, on a farm north of Berne, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Leona (Knutson) Klaus. She was baptized in April 1930 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, where she was later confirmed into the Lutheran faith. She attended country school near Ute and graduated from Ute High School with a class of six students in 1948. After completing normal training, Wilma began her career in teaching, first at a country school for five years.

On June 14, 1953, Wilma was united in marriage to Herbert Neumann at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute. Along with raising their three children, Wilma continued to enjoy her teaching career at Charter Oak-Ute Community School District in elementary education, retiring in May 1992. After retirement it was obvious that Wilma loved children, especially her grandkids. In recent years at Emeritus, she enjoyed seeing the children that visited, her face lighting up just at the sight of their presence. Her beloved husband, Herb, passed away on Sept. 4, 2007.

As a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wilma served actively on the Ladies Aid. She was also involved in the American Legion Auxiliary Aaby Unit 442 of Ute, holding post and county offices. She was a charter member of the 900 Club, a group of numerous farm neighbors.

Survivors include one son, Tim Neumann of Schleswig, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Sara and George Broome of Wenatchee, Wash., and Jane and Joe Coon of Clive, Iowa; six grandchildren, Melinda Fisa and her husband, Michael, Paul Neumann, Adam Meyer, and Ian, Nathan, and Rachel Coon; two great-grandchildren, Levi and Aaron Fisa; two brothers, Milford Klaus and his wife, Jeri of Omaha, and Orvan Klaus of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Doris Thompson of Omaha, LaRue Tanner and her husband, Glenn of Colorado Springs, Colo., and LaDonna King and her husband, Vernon of Adair, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews, cherished students and dear friends.

Along with her husband, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Dorothy Fisher, Sharon Swink, and Willamette Klaus who died in infancy.

Ute, IA - Wilma I. Neumann, 82, of Ute passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 26, at Emeritus Senior Living in Urbandale. Funeral services were Saturday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute with Pastor Marcus Manley officiating.

Message in Music was by Creta Teut, organist, and included “Nearer My God To Thee,” “My God Accept My Heart Today,” “Abide With Me.”

Pallbearers were Gary Thompson, Myron Thompson, Shawn King, Paul Neumann, Adam Meyer, and Justin Hageman.

Everyone was invited and encouraged to return to the church for a time of sharing food and fellowship following the interment.

Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute. Visitation was Friday, June 29, from 3-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 509 South Day Ave. in Ute.
