Leonard Prentice Peterson, age 77, of Mapleton died unexpectedly Thursday, February 27, 1992, at his residence in Mapleton of a n apparent heart attack.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton with Rev. Richard Hempenius officiating. Mrs. Evelyn Perrin was the organist and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace" a n d "How Great Thou Art". Masonic services were by Quarry Lodge #404, A.F. & A.M.", Mapleton, Iowa with Bill Hagerdon. Worshipful Master a n d Joe Jessen, Orator. Visitation and a prayer service was held at the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa. Burial was in Grant Township Cemetery, Rodney, Iowa.

Mr. Peterson was born June 2, 1914, at Smithland, Iowa, to John and Katherine Peterson. On January 10, 1942, he married Neta Slentz at LeMars, Iowa. The couple lived at Danbury, Merrill, and Owega before moving to a family farm near Rodney. They retired and moved into Mapleton 13 years ago.

He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, Quarry Lodge #404, A.F. & A.M., Mapleton and the Mapleton Camping Club.

Survivors Include one daughter, Mrs. Norman (Sandra) Parker of Mapleton; one brother and his wife, Carl and Helen Peterson of Mapleton; three sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Nettie) Carlson of Sioux City, Edith Erlandson of Omaha, Nebraska and Helen Hayden of Butte, Montana; one sister-in-law, Ellen Peterson of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; one stepsister, Mrs. Virginia Carrier of Onawa; and one stepbrother, Willis Peterson of Westside, Iowa; one grandson, Bruce and one granddaughter, Teresa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers were Willis Peterson, Gary Castle, Howard Dunn, Merlin Peterson, Lynn Carlson and Elbert Sargant.
