Carlyle L. Peterson, age 64, of Marcus, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 2. 1989 of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Cushing, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. May 5, 1989 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. Iowa. Reverend Ronald Kramer officiated and the burial was at 2:00 p.m. in the Grant Cemetery at Ticonic, Iowa. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 1989, at the church. The Nelson-Earnest Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. The organist for the funeral was Mrs. Helen Nelson and Mr. John ' Schneider sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer".

Honorary pallbearers were Orlo Johnson, Gary Booth, Wendell Rainboth, Glenn Skow, Roger Leavitt, and Phillip Muller. Active pallbearers were Keith Benton, Greg Geerdes, Mike Knutson, Jerry Martin, Elvin Jensen, and Craig Smith.

Carlyle LaDean Peterson was born on July 31, 1924 at Hornick, Iowa, son of Harry and Mabel (Carroll) Peterson. He lived his childhood years at Ticonic, Iowa, and graduated from the Mapleton High School in 1942. He married Verdetta Houchins on December 31,1946, in Onawa, Iowa. The couple lived at Ticonic, Iowa, until 1966 when they moved to Marcus. Iowa. He had worked for Armor and Company until 1976 and had operated the Marcus Variety Store since that time.

Mr. Peterson was a Navy veteran of World War II. An avid sports enthusiast, he received the first Joe Glackin Sports Fan Award in Marcus, Iowa. He also received the Roy Johnson Memorial Award from the Marcus Fair Board. Mr. Peterson was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Amalgamated Meat Cutlers Union.

Survivors include his wife, Verdetta: three daughters. Mrs. Robert (Penny) Jones of Sloan, Iowa, Mrs. Ronald (Julie) Johannsen of Primghar, Iowa, and Mrs. Clark (Vickie) Rainboth of Marcus, Iowa: his mother, Mabel Peterson of Battle Creek, Iowa; two brothers, Darrell of LeMars, Iowa, and Duane of Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Jean Peterson of Cypress, California, and Sharon Petersen of Battle Creek, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Wayne Houchins and his mother-in-law, Opal Houchins, both of Marcus, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.
