Neta Mae Peterson, 69, of Mapleton, Iowa, died on Wednesday, May 21, 1986, at her home of an apparent heart attack.

She was born on December 11, 1916, at Mapleton, Iowa, to Harley and Shirley (Aller) Slentz. She moved to a farm near Rodney, Iowa, with her parents as a child. She attended a Rodney school and graduated from Mapleton High School and Westmar College at LeMars, Iowa. She taught in rural schools for six years in the Mapleton and Moorhead areas. On January 10, 1942, she married Leonard Peterson at LeMars, Iowa. They lived at Danbury, Merrill, and Owego before moving to a family farm near Rodney, Iowa, in 1949. The couple retired seven years ago and moved to Mapleton, Iowa.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship, Mapleton Camping Club, and Mapleton Travel Club.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Sandra) Parker of Mapleton, Iowa; a stepsister, Mrs. Everett (Virginia) Davis of Onawa, Iowa: a stepbrother, Willis Peterson of Westside; and two grandchildren.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 1986, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ at Mapleton, Iowa, with Reverend Homer Perry officiating. Mrs. Ned Perrin, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Leonard Lund, who sang "Amazing Grace", and Scott Castle, who sang "How Great Thou Art".

Pallbearers were Oscar Hanson, Claire Hewitt, Leonard Lund, Lynn Townley, Jeff Smith, and Gary Castle.

Interment was in the Grant Township Cemetery at Rodney, Iowa, with arrangements by the Willman Funeral Home in Rodney.
