Isabel Steele, 88, of Ida Grove died Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Morningside Rehab and Care Center in Ida Grove.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. David Hemann will officiate. Burial to be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove.

Born on April 15, 1924, on the family farm near Mapleton, Iowa, Isabel Victoria Steele was the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Flammang) Jacoby. She attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade.

On Feb. 28, 1949, Isabel was united in marriage to Lawrence Earl Steele at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton. The couple was blessed with ten children. In addition to raising her large family, Isabel was employed as a cook at Krueger’s Restaurant in Danbury, Iowa.

Isabel and Lawrence made many happy memories attending local dances where Lawrence’s band, The Sun Downers, played. Isabel enjoyed embroidery and crocheting blankets to give to all her family and friends. She enjoyed music and playing cards with her family and friends.

Survivors include seven children, Rose Ann (Howard) Ladwig of Ida Grove, Rita Steele of Garden City, Mo., Donnie Steele of Ida Grove, Connie (Mark) Husted of Sioux City, Carol Fruechtenicht of Jefferson, S.D. and friend, Rick Lane, Darlene (Eric) Nicholson of Sioux City, and Roger Steele of Ida Grove; 12 grandchildren to cherish “Grandma Belle’s” memory, Lori (Fred) Anderson of Ida Grove, Travis (Kelly) Ladwig of Tremont, Ill., Mike (Heather) Steele of Merrill, Iowa, Melissa (Shawn) Vincent of Sioux City, Monica Husted of Sioux City, Zach (Lindsey) Husted of Chaska, Minn., Zeb (Whitney) Husted of Sioux City, Clint Fruechtenicht of Lincoln, Neb., Sabrina Fruechtenicht of Denver, Colo., Beau Fruechtenicht and fiancee, Anita of Omaha, Jason Carley of Sioux City, and Bobbi Jo Klinegobe of Tilden, Neb.; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; two sons, Robert and James Steele; a daughter, Jean Steele; a grandson, Robbie Carley; a son-in-law, Samuel Fruechtenicht; five brothers, Pete, Silven, John, Benedict, and Tony Jacoby; and four sisters, Mary Warner, Kathleen Lewis, Beatrice McCall, and Teresa Diimig.
