Services Held For John Henry Newman

John Henry Newman son of Charles and Dora (Peacock) Newman was born on Feb 22, 1899 near Castana Iowa. He died May 4, 1977 at Sioux City, Iowa having reached the age of 78 years 2 months and 12 days.

He lived on a farm with his parents until marriage. He was united in marriage to Hazel Burke on January 11, 1921 at Onawa Iowa. Mrs. Newman died in 1941. On December 6 1946 he was married to Grace Casper and she died in 1961. On November 4 1967 he married Marie Shimitz and she died in 1971.

Mr. Newman was baptized into the Methodist faith in 1957 and was a member of St Johns United Methodist Church in Mapleton. Ia. John farmed near the Soldier Ticonic Anthon, Castana and Mapleton communities He was a carpenter for the Haubrich Construction Co in Mapleton for 20 years He retired in 1967

Services were held on Saturday, May 7, 1977 at 10:30 a. m. at the Walter Chapel at Mapleton, Iowa with Rev Louis Aitken officiating. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery near Rodney, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Gilbert Dose, Wilbert Dose, Delmond Scheer, LeDean Hagerdon, Clarence Gries and Paul Kinney.

Survivors include two daughters Mrs. John (Charlene) Carlsen of Mapleton and Mrs. Clark (Norma) Martin of Castana, one son, Richard Newman of Omaha, Nebraska, one sister, Mrs. Orval (Beulah) Lucas of Smithland, four brothers Fred of Sioux City, Leland of Battle Creek, Leonard of Mapleton and Charles of Smithland, thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wives, parents, one son, one sister and one brother.
