4 August 1988Ethel Mary Newman, 68, of Mapleton died at her home in Mapleton on Friday. July 29, 1988.
Services were held on Monday, August 1. 1988. at Walter Chapel in Mapleton at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Richard Hempenius officiating. Burial was in Grant Township Cemetery, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home o f Mapleton.
Mrs. Newman, the former Ethel Treiber, was born May 26, 1920 to Adam and Elizabeth (Schimmer) Treiber at Cooper Township in Monona County. Ethel attended and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Danbury, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Leonard Newman on July 19, 1937 at Marshalltown. Iowa. After their marriage the couple moved to a farm near Anthon, Iowa, where they lived for six years. They then moved to a farm east of Mapleton where they lived for 31 years. The couple moved into Mapleton in 1975 where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Paul.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard; three sons. Roger of Alma, Arkansas, Jerald of
Madrid. Iowa and Roy of Piedmont, Oklahoma: two brothers, Loyle (Bud) Treiber of Danbury, Iowa and Harold of Mapleton, Iowa; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Pallbearers were Donnie Newman, Allan Newman, Mike Mohrhauser, Tom McClelland, Donald Muckey and Keith Newman.
