Mrs. John Newman was born June 1, 1888 in Monona County and died Sunday, September 27, 1970 after a long illness. She had reached the age of 82 years, 3 months, and 26 days.

She was the former Dora Frances Crum and was a life-long area resident and farmed near Ticonic. On April 5, 1905 she was married to John Newman in Onawa.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Church W.S.C.S., Rebekah Lodge and Royal Neighbors.

They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last April.

Survivors include widower; three daughters, Mrs. Harold Steward of Onawa, Mrs. Carl Uhl of Sioux City, and Mrs. Joseph Kama of Oakland, California; one son, Otis of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Warren, Mrs. Oath Newman of Anthon; nine grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services were held in the Walter Funeral Chapel in Mapleton at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 1970 with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating.

Burial was in Grant Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ralph Davis, Ray McCleerey, John H. Newman, Tony Chamberlain, Everett McCall and Ervin Jochims.
