Dora (Peacock) Newman, daughter of John and Malvina Peacock, was born July 21, 1875, In Monona County near Mapleton. She was the youngest child in a family of eight. She made her residence in Monona County during her entire life, having lived in the Ticonic and Mapleton Communities, the last four years were spent in a Cherokee hospital

She was married to Charles O. Newman October 16, 1895, at Onawa, Iowa. Eight children were born to this union. Her husband preceded her in death in October 1943. She died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 1955, at a Cherokee hospital after an illness of seven years, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 1 day.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frelan (Sylvia) Muckey of Mapleton and Mrs. Orval (Beulah) Lucas of Smithland; five sons, John of Mapleton, Charles of Oto, Fred of Sioux City, Leonard of Mapleton and Leland of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Harris of Mapleton and Mrs. Lille Mitchell of Cleveland, O.: 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Besides her she was also preceded in death by one son, her parents, three sisters and two brothers. ,

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 1955, at the Ticonic Methodist church. Rev. Worthie Usher of Smithland officiated. Abner Persinger, Albert Blakely, Ivan Blakely and Orlo Johnson sang "In The Garden" and “The Old Rugged Cross." Blanche Woodward was organist.

Burial was in Grant cemetery, Grant Township under direction of the Byers-Walter funeral service.

Pallbearers were John Newman, Charles Newman, Don Muckey, Frelan Muckey, Orval Lucas and Leonard Newman.
