Sophie M. Krusen, age 78, of Hornick, Iowa, died on Saturday, August 6, 1988, in a nursing home in Onawa. Iowa after a short illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. August 9, 1988, in the Walter Funeral Home at
Mapleton, Iowa with the Reverend Richard Hempenius officiating. Burial was in the Grant Township Cemetery, near Rodney, Iowa. Visitation was after 2:00 p.m. on Monday. August 8, 1988 in the funeral home.

Mrs. Krusen, the former Sophie Hillman, was born on July 25, 1910, to Fred L. and Mary (Slusser) Hillman in Ireton. She married Marlow Krusen on September 7, 1930, at Hawarden. The couple farmed at Hawarden and Ireton before moving to the Hornick, Iowa, area, thirty-seven years ago. Mr. Krusen died on June 22. 1981.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Jack Krusen, and one brother.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Mary) Vellinga of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Betty Newman of Smithland, Iowa; a brother, Fred Hillman of Hawarden; fourteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Sophie's grandsons, Dan Vellinga, Brent Vellinga, Kelly Chandler, Jeff Krusen, Aaron Krusen, Lane Vellinga, Scott Chandler, Jody Chandler, and Benny Krusen.

Honorary pallbearers were Sophie's granddaughters, Ronnie Newman, Terri Hamman, Kim Weber, Nancy Vellinga and Pat Adkinson.
