Edwin L. Bohlmann, 90, of Onawa died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Premier Estates in Onawa.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Charter Oak, Iowa, with the Rev. Timothy Frank officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Barb Hansen officiating, at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Root Funeral Home (formerly Pearson Funeral Home) in Onawa.

Edwin Louis Bohlmann, the son of Rudolph and Hedwig (Kortmann) Bohlmann, was born on May 13, 1921, on the family farm in Hanover Township near Ricketts, Iowa. He was the fourth of six children and was raised on the family farm. Ed was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. He received his education at St. Paul Parochial School and graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1939 as president of his class. He worked on the family farm until 1946, when his parents retired. Ed formed Bohlmann Construction and built the first dam in Crawford County, Iowa, in 1952.

Ed was united in marriage to Lenora Baugh on Jan. 12, 1951, at First Lutheran Church in Sioux City. They were blessed with four lovely children, Hope, Lois, Joel and Ruth. Ed continued his earth-moving business until 1955. As an independent business person, Ed farmed and developed a real estate business. He moved his family to Sioux City in 1964 and worked for Delbert Ullrich Construction. After taking a job with the Sioux City Journal, he moved his family to Onawa where he built the Midway Motel in 1969 at the I-29 interchange. In 1986, Ed and Lenora retired and they enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida.

Ed was an active member of the Lutheran Church and enjoyed many years as a member of Kiwanis.

Ed is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lenora of Onawa; four children, Hope Bohlmann of Onawa, Lois Bohlmann of Lewisville, Texas, Joel Bohlmann and wife, Wendy Barnes of Marietta, Ga., and Ruth Rodgers of Omaha; four granddaughters, Erin and Kathleen Bohlmann and Kelsey and Rachel Rodgers; two brothers, Victor Bohlmann of Jefferson, Iowa, and Orville Bohlmann and wife, Clare of Denison, Iowa; one sister, Leola Ault of Minneapolis; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Glyn Rodgers; one brother, Ralph and wife, Lavern Bohlmann; one sister, Stella Rahn and husband, Albert; brother-in-law, Truman Ault; and sister-in-law, Vernet Bohlmann.

Ed was dearly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
