Richard T. "Dick" Dietschy, 71, of Whiting died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Congregational UCC in Whiting, with the Rev. Reva B. Karstens officiating. Burial will follow in Whiting City Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service by the Weston Lodge 562 A.F. & A.M., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa.

Richard Thomas "Dick" Dietschy, son of Edward and Belle (Marshall) Dietschy, was born June 13, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa. Dick was raised and educated in Sioux City, and the family made their home in the Riverside neighborhood. He attended and graduated from Heelan High School with the Class of 1958. After graduating, he started working for Wincharger in Sioux City. He then went to National Foods as a warehouse supervisor. In 1966, Dick was the very first person to get hired at Kind and Knox. He worked as a materials manager for the factory and was the coordinator for the company outings. After 37 years, Dick retired on May 5, 2003.

On Feb. 7, 1970, Dick was united in marriage to Donna Jean Long in Omaha, Neb. The couple made their home in Sioux City until 1972, when they moved to Whiting. In 1976, they built their current home.

Dick was very active in the Whiting community and in the First Congregational UCC. He served on the Whiting City Council, was a member and Past Master of Weston Lodge 562 A.F. & A.M. in Whiting, volunteered on the fire department for 20 years, and served as president of the Whiting Community Club and emceed the annual Fourth of July parade for several years. He loved Nebraska football and enjoyed hunting, fishing and sunning.

Dick is survived by his wife, Donna of Whiting; his children, Tim Dietschy and wife Lorie of Orange City, Iowa, Kris Anne Duhaime and husband Reid of North Liberty, Iowa, David Dietschy and wife Carrie of Sloan, Iowa, and Darin Dietschy of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren, Drew Dietschy, Taylor Dietschy, Danielle Bessman and husband Austin, Casey Duhaime, Christopher Duhaime, Cayden Duhaime, Blaine Dietschy, Braiden Dietschy and Blair Dietschy; two great-grandchildren, Cadence and Gavin Bessman; two brothers-in-law, James Long and wife Carol of Sloan, Iowa, and Bruce Long and wife Joan of Johnston, Iowa; three nephews, David Coleman of Vancouver, Wash., Dan Coleman and wife Pam of Dallas, Ga., and Steven Long of Des Moines, Iowa; four nieces, Susan Coleman of Marietta, Ga., Stefani Lindgren and husband Rodney of Moville, Iowa, Jennifer Boes and husband Tim of Johnston, Iowa, and Brittany Long of Ames, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice Coleman and husband, Charles; one brother, Gene Dietschy; and an infant nephew, Brett Long.
