Car Strikes, Kills Man at Smithland

Leon M. Ham, 53, rural Smithland was killed Monday night when he was struck by a car as he walked across Iowa 141 and Broadway Street in Smithland. Driver of the car was identified as Ronald C. Barnes, 19, Mapleton, Iowa. Mr. Barnes and his wife were returning from a shopping trip in Sioux City when the mishap occurred according to officials.

Funeral services will be at p .m. Thursday at the Willman Funeral Home, Rodney, Iowa. The Rev. John Schlosser of the Ticonic United Methodist Church near Rodney will officiate. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery area Ticonic.
