Dale R. Blankenhorn, 71, of rural Mapleton, a former high priest of the Iowa Masonic Lodge, died Saturday, February 9, 1985, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, in the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton. The Rev. Dick Krambeck officiated. Burial was in Grant Cemetery near Rodney, Iowa. Masonic services were held at the funeral home Monday evening, February 11, at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Blankenhorn was born July 29, 1913, to Charles and Lena (Bauman) Blankenhorn on the family farm near Mapleton, where he lived his entire life, and farmed until his retirement, in 1975. After retiring, he manufactured fishing lures and fishing equipment. He married Doris Bradfield on August 10, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a member of the Quarry Lodge Number 404, AF&AM, at Mapleton, and a past lodge master. He was past high priest of the Royal Arch Masons Number 116 of the State of Iowa Arbecka Shrine of Sioux City, and also served as secretary of Masonic Lodge and was Scottish Rite Consistory of Sioux City, commandry of Ida Grove. A past school board director of the Mapleton Public School and past member of the Monona the Mapleton Public School and past member of the Monona County School Board, Mr. Blankenhorn also served on the Monona County Conservation Board and the FHA Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of Mapleton; one aunt, Mable Blankenhorn; and other cousins.
Pallbearers were John Lintin, Byron Edgington, Ralph Armstrong, Ralph Habinck, Dale Campbell, and Carl Miller.
