Ruth Blakely, 94, formerly of Grant Center, Iowa, died Friday, December 6, 1991, at Pleasant
View Nursing Home in Whiting.

She was born June 29, 1987,(should be 1897) at Latham, Illinois, the daughter of Charles I. and Ida Catherine (Rupp) Bentley. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1915, and received teacher training at Sioux City's Morningside College. She taught three years at the Onawa public school and at Grant Center for five years. She married Ivan Blakely September 20, 1923, at Sioux City. The couple farmed in Grant Center. Mr. Blakely died September 16, 1964, at Grant Center. Ruth had been a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home at Whiting since August of 1987.

She was a 60 year member of the Ticonic United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Queen Esther Chapter Order of Eastern Star 222 of Onawa. She was a member of Ember Rebekah Lodge 486 in Rodney and the United Methodist Women, the Grant Center Ladles' Aid, the Grant Township Extension Club and the Grant Township Cemetery Association.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Loren and Helen of Grant Center; two daughters, Betty Ruth Boles and her husband, Wayne of Glenwood, Iowa and Jeanette McCleery of Burnsville, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ellen Nagel of Grant Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, Cecil Ivan, a brother and three sisters.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 9, 1991, at the United Methodist Church at Ticonic with Rev. Steven Root officiating. Mrs. Steve Longlee was the organist and Susan Blakely provided special music selections, "In His Love" and "In The Garden".

Bearers were Jeffrey Blakely, Charles Boles, Kirk Baker, Ronald Kuhn, Roger Sell and Charles Bentley. Interment was in Grant Township Cemetery at Rodney, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home. Onawa, Iowa. Memorial donations may be directed to the Ticonic United Methodist Church.
