ONAWA, Iowa -- Esther Mae Kuhlmann, 94, of Onawa went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Barb Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Esther Mae (Longlee) Kuhlmann, daughter of Christian Hans and Mathida Caroline (Casperson) Longlee, was born May 8, 1917 at Castana, Iowa. She was baptized on Aug. 26, 1917 and confirmed Oct. 25, 1931 in the Soldier Lutheran Church. She attended school and graduated from Castana High School in 1935.

On Aug. 21, 1935, Esther was united in marriage to Wilbert Laverne Kuhlmann in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in Monona County their entire life and retired to Onawa in 1992. Wilbert passed away on April 8, 1993. Esther continued to make her home in Onawa until moving to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Esther loved to sew and embroider. She made quilts and pillow cases for all her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being with her family and was especially proud of her twelve five-generation families.

Esther will be greatly missed by her children, Ronald and wife Trudy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Norman and wife Judy of Moorhead, Iowa, Carole and husband John Kress of Whitewood, S.D., Judith and husband Bob Glassburner of Omaha, Neb., and Douglas and wife Cindy of Onawa; daughter-in-law, Linda Kuhlman of Onawa; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several foster grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Donald Lane of Sioux City, and Arnold Kuhlmann of Lake Charles, La.; one sister-in-law, Velma Campbell of Council Bluffs; and numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Dennis; four brothers, Melvin, Carl, Harold and Clifford Longlee; and four sisters, Mary Knutson, Maxine Thoreson, Lillian Lane and Helen Hord.

Esther's family would like to thank everyone at Pleasant View Care Center, and a special thanks to Mickey Trail for all the care and love she received there.
