Maundy Benton, only child of Daniel and Josephine Beaton, was born January 25, 1879, at Castana, Iowa She died February 4, 1953 at her home after an illness of three years. She lived her entire life of 74 years and 10 days on the home farm.

She prepared herself for a teaching career which lasted 2 years, by attending Iowa State College and Morningside college.

Miss Benton was an active church member in Center Methodist church and Castana Community church. Later she transferred to the Mapleton Methodist church of which she was a member at the time of her death.

She was a Past Noble Grand of Maple View Rebekuh lodge No 53 of Castana. She was very active in school activities and committee life. She thoroughly enjoyed her association with friends in her school and lodge work She gave her all in everything she did She will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives.

Her father preceded her in death December 2o, 1928. Survivors include the aged mother, Miss Josephine Beaton, at home. Miss Angeline Hall, a cousin, and Mrs.
Hall's daughters, Josephine and Cathryn all residing at the Benton farm, also several other cousins and distant relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 1953 it the Castana Community church. Rev George Osburn officiated. Interment was in the Center cemetery at Castana under direction of Byers-Walter funeral service. Pallbearers were Earl Miller, Herman Houslaugh, Maurice Jensen. Alvin Larson and Fred Anderson.

Relatives from a distance attending funeral services were Mrs. Ralph Davis, Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. James Manson, Mr. and Mrs. Abner Persinger, Rodney.
John Chilton and Lavina Manson, Smithland, Mrs. Joseph Mann, Ackley, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Volk. Eldora.
