MAPLETON, Iowa -- Wayne Hasbrouck, 81, of Clear Lake, Iowa, formerly of Mapleton, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Ed Bard Chaplin of North Iowa Hospice officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home.

Wayne was born Jan. 22, 1931, on the family farm southwest of Mapleton, the son of Raymond and Seffa (Baker) Hasbrouck. He attended country school through the eighth grade and then attended and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1949. Wayne entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1957 with the rank of sergeant first class.

Wayne married Evelyn Moraine Melby on June 26, 1954, in Onawa, Iowa. They moved to Clear Lake, Iowa, in 1968. He worked for Tractor Supply for more than 35 years, retiring as manager of TSC in Mason City in 1993.

Wayne enjoyed gardening, doing farm and yard work for Nieman Farms, boating, golfing, his fishing trips to Canada and was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Wayne is survived by his two children, Vicki (Gene "Skeeter") Welch of Clear Lake, and Bruce (Joy McGrane) Hasbrouck of Clear Lake; his very longtime special friend, Virginia Grimm of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Vanessa (Jason Schultz) Hasbrouck of Sioux City, Natalie Hasbrouck of Ventura, Iowa, Ryan (Heather) Welch of Northwood, Iowa, and Nathaniel (April) Welch of Grimes, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey Schultz, Ethan, Sydney, Finley and Scarlett Welch; three brothers, Morris (Virginia) Hasbrouck of Ida Grove, Iowa, Ricky Hasbrouck of Great Falls, Mont., and Jerry (Joanie) Hasbrouck of Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sisters, Lavonne (Hans) Witzel of Castana, Iowa, and Retha (Richard) Bielenberg of Morrison, Ill.; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Rose) Melby of Fairmont, Iowa, and Gary (Stephanie) Melby of Brawley, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Jack) Hoden of San Marcus, Calif., and Christy Vivian of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Moraine in 1994; sister, Louise Stinton; and brothers, Jess and Leonard Hasbrouck.

Family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or Apple Valley Assisted Living.
