FERN MARTHA DOROTHEA SCHNOOR

MAPLETON, Iowa -- Fern M. Schnoor, 88, of Mapleton died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Fern Martha Dorothea Schnoor was born Dec. 27, 1917, near Mapleton, the daughter of Julius and Anna (Laumbach) Ernst. She was baptized at United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa and confirmed at United Church of Christ in Mapleton. She attended country school, Cooper 7. She helped on the family farm until her marriage.

She married Fred Schnoor on Feb. 23, 1947, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, by the Rev. Elmer Otto. After their marriage, they moved to a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa. They moved in 1968 to a farm near Mapleton. The couple moved into Mapleton in 1986, where they have continued to make their home until the present.

The couple have been members of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton their entire married life. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Though the couple had no children, they truly enjoyed when children came to visit.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Fred Schnoor; a sister, Pearl Hahn of Mapleton; sisters-in-law, Elsie Schnoor of Denison, Iowa, and Juanita Thies of Mapleton; and many nieces and nephews. The couple shared an especially close friendship with Kirk and Julie Bollig and their daughters, Stacy and Jill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Herbert; brothers-in-law, Norman Hahn and Martin Thies; and a niece, Nancy Ernst.
