Mary Elizabeth Theobald, daughter of Frank and Mary Meier Hupke,was born on September 23, 1891 at Schaller, Iowa. Mary moved to Danbury with her parents at the age of twelve and lived in Danbury until her marriage to John Theobald in 1916, when they began farming in the Mapleton vicinity.
She and her husband moved into Mapleton in 1952. Mary had been a resident of the Maple Heights Nursing Home from July, 1974 until her death on Tuesday, November 25, 1975. She belonged to S t . Mary's Catholic Church and was the past-president of St . Mary's Guild.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Rosina (Lawrence) Hoesing, Mapleton; Mrs. Rita (Francis) Zerwas, Manning; Mrs. Theresa (Robert) Sperry, Mapleton,- four sons, Lester and Donald both of Mapleton, Ralph of Chicago Heights and Harlan of Ute; one brother, Joe; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Kline, Mrs. Loretta Uhl and Mrs. Bertha Schweizer, all of Ontario, California; seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three children, three sisters and three brothers.
Services were held Saturday, November 29, 1975 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Walter Bruch officiating.
Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mapleton. Pallbearers were: Clifford LeFebvre, Archie Baker, Al Bruning, Ed Struble, Pete Sankey and John Heisler.
