MAPLETON, Iowa -- Joyce L. Tweet, 76, of Mapleton, died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton of cancer.

Private family graveside services were held June 28 in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements were under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Joyce LaVonne Tweet was born to Earnest J. and Alice C. (Moline) Tweet on Oct. 29, 1934, in Sioux City. She was raised in Sioux City and attended schools there. She later obtained a general education diploma. She started working at Wincharger in 1956 and then was employed at Zenith Electronics until 1978. In 1979, she moved to Illinois to work at Extel Corp. in Northbrook. In 1989, she moved to Mapleton and took a job at Casey's, where she worked until 2002 when eyesight problems from macular degeneration caused her to retire. Joyce became a resident of Maple Heights in February 2010.

Survivors include her brother, Robert (Kathi) Tweet of Mapleton; two sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Tweet of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Ann Tweet of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews who fondly called her "A.J.".

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, June Langford; and six brothers, Gilbert, Wesley, Theodore, Mervel, Ernest, and Duane in infancy.
