Funeral services for John Gibbs, 71, 1818 W. Sixth Street, who died Thursday at a hospital after a brief illness, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the W. Harry Christy funeral home, 711 Myrtle Street. Rev. Kenneth Baker of the First Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Whiting, Iowa cemetery.Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of Monahan post of the American Legion.
Pallbearers will be Joy Polly, Leo Anderson, Eugene Rupp, Bernard Nelson, Willis Stading and Rolland Nelson.
Mr. Gibbs was born March 2, 1891, at Elk City, Nebr. He moved to Fremont, Nebr. as a child and in later years farmed near Fremont.
He was a veteran of World War I.
He married Mrs. Minnie Lester April 24, 19(blurred out), at Blair, Nebr.
The couple resided at Allen, Nebr. before moving to Sioux City in 1936. Mr. Gibbs was employed at the Sioux City airbase at one time and for 13 years worked for the Galinsky Fruit and Vegetable Co. He retired in 1958.
He was a member of Monahan post 64, American Legion and the Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include the widow, a son Vernon of Auburn, Wash: a brother William of Omaha; A sister, Mrs. Rose Sierks of Onawa and three granddaughters.
