Gosch, Glenn Edward 1916-2000

Glenn Edward Gosch, the son of Henry and Catharina (Behrendsen) Gosch, was born on May 18, 1916, in rural Ute, Iowa. He attended Ute area schools through the eighth grade. As a young man, Glenn farmed near Ute.

On December 5, 1940, Glenn married Marjorie E. Green. He then owned the Minneapolis-Moline Farm Equipment Dealership in Ute. Marjorie died in July 1947. Glenn later married Luella Marie (Matthiesen) Waderich, on September 29, 1950. After Glenn and Luella married, he sold the Minneapolis-Moline dealership and became self-employed, selling farm-related equipment for Artsway of Armstrong, Iowa, and later for Sunflower and other companies. The couple later live in LaMoille, Illinois, and Gilman City, Missouri, before moving to Harlan, Iowa, in the early 1970’s. Glenn continued to sell farm equipment until his retirement at age 70. Luella died on September 13, 1999, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Glenn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. After retiring, he especially enjoyed woodworking and sold some of his woodcrafts throughout the area.

Glenn E. Gosch died on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Myrtle Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 84 years and 27 days.

Preceding Glenn in death were his parents; his first wife, Marjorie; his second wife, Luella; five brothers, Erhard Gosch, Henry Gosch Jr, Arthur Gosch, Elmer Gosch and Walter Gosch; one sister, Irene Maack; and one granddaughter, Jillian.

Survivors include six daughters, Norma Gosch, of Shelby, Iowa, Phyllis (James) St. Germain and Doris (George) Smith, both of San Jose, California, Judy (Joseph) Webster of Carson City, Nevada, Diane Robertson of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Carolyn (Duane) Arterburn of Hastings, Nebraska; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 19, 2000, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor John Benson and Pastor Henry Flessner officiating. Marge Ahrenholtz served as the organist. Casketbearers were Leon Gosch, Robert Matthiesen, Norman Gosch, Dennis Sutherland, Sherman Gosch, and Ronald Sutherland. Burial was in the St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. The Brumeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements.
