Robert (Bob) Carritt was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 27, 1932, the son of Joe and Clara Neubaum Carritt. He died October 3, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 74.

Bob was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa, on January 21, 1951. He attended various country schools in Iowa and graduated from Ute High School in 1950.

On October 6, 1951, he married Elaine Knutzen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute. The couple made their home in Fairmont, Minnesota, until February of 1952, when Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. Stationed in San Francisco, he served honorably in the United States Navy from 1952-1956, and was a veteran of the Korean War.

After the Navy, Bob worked several different jobs in several small western Iowa towns (Ute, Odebolt, Mapleton) until finally settling down in Denison in 1962. The majority of his working life was spent in the lumber business and trucking business. Trucking was his second love, after his wife, and between truck driving and travels with Elaine, he managed to travel to all 50 of the United States. He retired in the late 90’s, but continued to drive truck on a part-time basis until May, 2006.

Bob enjoyed taking trips to various states with their friends, Warren and Betty Hawn. He liked to spoil his grandchildren and was a loving and devoted father. Before becoming an avid golfer, he enjoyed bowling for many years and loved to read. Bob had a strong Christian faith and was a very active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church since 1970.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe and Clara Carritt; and his brother, Dick Carritt. Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Denison, sons, Mark of Chugiak, Alaska; Scott and his wife, Becky, of Denison; daughter Lori Wiebers and her husband, Jeff, of Lakeville, Minnesota; grandchildren, Nathan, Josh and Alyssa Carritt, and Megan, Cara and Neal Wiebers; sisters, Roma Schimmer of Carroll, Iowa; Nancy Scott and her husband, Roger, of Omaha, Nebraska; brother, Larry Carritt and his wife, Carol, of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Loren Knutzen of Omaha, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.
