Elaine Ellen Barber, 77, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in Sioux City.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Graceland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Miss Barber was born Jan. 27, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Ned and Nora (Maynard) Barber. She graduated from Central High School. She was a lifelong Sioux City resident. She was employed with Hagan Company Plumbing for more than 20 years as a secretary.

She was a former member of Riverside Methodist Church. She played the piano, was an accomplished ballroom dancer and enjoyed doing genealogy and documenting the findings in the Barber family tree.

Survivors include three nephews, Dan Barber of Lawrence, Kan., Darrell Schroeppel of Lincoln, Neb., and Donald Schroeppel of Fremont, Neb.; two nieces, Brenda Barber of Denver, Colo., and Linda Barber of Lakewood, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Barber of Lakewood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, LeRoy Barber; a sister, Alice Schroeppel; a brother-in-law, Arthur Schroeppel; and a niece, Carol (Schroeppel) Dorn.
