Paul L. Barber, 91, 3611 Pierce Place, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1992, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
A memorial service will be at noon Friday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with the Rev. Frederick Lubs, of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. The body was cremated and there will be no visitation.
Mr. Barber was born Jan. 20, 1901 in Rodney, Iowa. He attended Smithland (Iowa) schools and graduated from Smithland High School. He also attended Iowa State University. He married Myra Petterson in 1922 in Sioux City. She died in 1971 in Sioux City. He married Martha McDonald in 1972 in Sioux City. A longtime Sioux City resident, he was a surety bondsman for the construction industry from 1927 until his retirement in 1973. During that time he was associated with the former Peters-Guiney Co., which became the Sloan-Guiney Co., which is now First Federal Savings and Loan. At the time of his retirement, he was associated with McManus-Green Co.
Mr. Barber was a former member of the Elks Club and Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Siouxland Senior Center and a charter member of the Sioux City Boat Club.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Barber of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three grandsons, Steven of Richmond, Va., Richard of Bozeman, Mont., and Scott of Cedar Rapids; two great-granddaughters; and three great-grandsons.
A memorial has been established in his name with the Siouxland Senior Center.
