William A. Gantz 1883-1967

William A. Gantz was born December 7, 1883 at Onawa, a son of Ernest and Ernestina Gantz, and passed from this life at a hospital in Omaha, Nebr. on Sunday, October 8 at the age of 83 years, 9 months, 29 days. Death came after a few weeks of failing health.

Mr. Gantz had engaged in farming all his life until his retirement several years ago. He was a faithful member of the Congregational Church in Onawa and the Monona Lodge No 380, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Mr. Gantz was united in marriage to Emma Gibbels on January 23, 1907 at Onawa. Mrs. Gantz passed away June 21, 1957.

Survivors include a son, Amos Gantz of Omaha; a daughter, Mrs. Arnold Amundson of Ute; two grandsons, William G. Gantz of Onawa and Dennis Amundson of Ute; a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Ollar of Fullerton, California and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter and one grandson. Will was a kind and friendly man, loved by his family and respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 11 at the Congregational Church in Onawa. Rev. Frank Perry officiated. Mrs. Willie Jensen sang “Abide With Me” and “Going Down the Valley” with Mrs. Oliver Kelley at the organ.

Pallbearers were Eddie Miller, Harold Hausman, Robert Harms, Terry McCarville, Ed Fors and Otis Denney. A graveside service was conducted by Monona Lodge No 380, IOOF Frank Koontz, Noble Grand and John Tyson, Chaplain.

Interment was at the Onawa Cemetery. Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.
