Edith Vandervert 1875-1960

Mrs. Edith Vandervert, a lifetime resident of the Onawa community passed from this life at a Mercy Hospital in Sacramento, California on Wednesday, January 6, 1960. She was a daughter of Dudley and Ellen Kenyon. Mrs. Vandervert had been in failing health the past several weeks and for the past month had been at the home of a niece, Mrs. John E. Eckert at Davis, California.

She was born August 4, 1875 at Onawa and at the time of her passing was 84 years of age.

After her graduation from high school in Onawa she was employed in the Blotsky Dry Goods Store in Onawa for several years. She was united in marriage to Bernard C. Vandervert on July 16, 1901, at Onawa. Iowa, Mr. Vandervert preceded her in death on June 21, 1957.

Mrs. Vandervert was an active member of the Onawa Congregational Church and the P.E.O. Society.

Survivors include a niece, Mrs. John E. (Virginia) Eckert of Davis, California; wife Clara and children of her brother, Dudley Kenyon, Caroline Jeane, Janet Hukok and Bartlett Kenyon, all of California; four grandnieces and one grandnephew. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Lyman Whittier.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 9th at the Congregational Church in Onawa with Rev. C.E. Hanan conducting the services. Mr. Evan Davies sang “Abide With Me” and “The Lord’s Prayer”, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Oliver Kelley. The casket bearers were Joseph and Bernard Nickoaisen, Bert Prichard, Clarence Myrland, Henry Roelsgard and Clarence Mathiasen. Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home.
