8 March 2011UTE, Iowa -- Pat Hinrichsen, 78, of Ute died Sunday, March 6, 2011, surrounded by her family at her daughter's home in Onawa, Iowa following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Ed Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.
Patricia Ann Hinrichsen was born June 16, 1932, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin Rudolph and Merle Ira (Mortenson) Britton. She was baptized and confirmed at Soldier Lutheran Church. Being raised in the Soldier area, she attended school there and graduated from Soldier High School with the class of 1950. While in school, Pat was active in sports, playing basketball and in the music program playing the saxophone.
On March 3, 1951, Pat was united in marriage to Lowell Herbert Hinrichsen at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute. The couple then farmed in the Mapleton, Iowa area. In the 1960s, the family moved to the Hinrichsen family farm near Ute, where they continued to farm until retirement. Lowell passed away on June 28, 1998. Pat stayed on the farm until recently moving to her daughter's home due to health reasons.
Pat was talented in any kind of handwork and hobbies, not afraid to take on the latest new product and challenge. She also liked to recover and restore furniture and would take on others in a competitive crossword or game. Pat worked side by side with her husband on the farm and in the fields, enjoying any kind of outdoor work and later introducing her grandchildren to farm life. She was recognized as a strong-willed, determined personality with a strong faith. Above all, she was completely devoted to her family, never saying no to any need expressed. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute and the Ladies Aid.
Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Pat include her four daughters, Carol Kozisek and her husband Dan of Lincoln, Neb., Linda Plough and her significant other Don of Onawa, Iowa, Pam Brown of Ankeny, Iowa, and Paula Voss and her husband Brion of Cherokee, Iowa; grandchildren, Amy and her husband Chad and their children Noah and Avery, Dustin and his son Brendan, Jami and Jon and their children Tevin, Ethan, and Gabe, and Elle and Kinsey; and two brothers, Robert Britton and his wife Eva of Muncie, Ind., and Gary Britton of Fort Myers, Fla.
Along with her husband, Pat was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steven Lowell Hinrichsen; and a sister, Ardyce Boeck.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being developed by the family.
