BLENCOE, Iowa -- Dorothy Hodgson, 92, of Blencoe passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blencoe United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Linda Boggs officiating. Private family graveside service will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com.

Dorothy (Doolin) Hodgson was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Feb. 1, 1919, the daughter of John Thomas and Bess (Johnson) Doolin. She attended Border Star Elementary School, Barstow School for Girls, and Southwest High School in Kansas City, Mo. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and was a member of Sigma Iota Chi Sorority. She also attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa.

Dorothy married John "Jack" Hodgson on Aug. 21, 1937, in Topeka, Kan.

Dorothy was an active member of the United Church of Christ. She was past president of the Priscilla Society, Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, a member of Women's Fellowship and was a deaconess of the church for many years. She was a charter member of the Chat & Sew Club and attended for many years. She was a 4-H leader for seven years, Brownie leader, Cub Scout leader, a member of the Blencoe Book Club, a member of the Burgess Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a regular volunteer at Burgess Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Tom (JoAnn) Hodgson of Mondamin, Iowa, and Bob (Mary Ann) Hodgson of Linn Creek, Mo.; a daughter and her husband, Mary Jo (Mike) Gannon of Santee, Calif.; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy (Eric) Clemon, Tim (Maredith) Hodgson, Robyn (Damon) Thomas, Jennifer (Corey) Braun, Leah (Chris) Thacker, Ryan Hodgson, Jessica Mock, Meghan Samson and Jenna Gannon; 14 great-grandchildren, John Frisk, Ericka Clemon, Heath and Tasha Hodgson, Lauren, Ashlyn, Justin and Carson Thomas, Cade Fisher, Lauren and Owen Braun, Tyler and Ethan Thacker and Madison Chamberlain; and a great-great-grandson, Zayne Frisk.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bess Doolin; her husband, Jack Hodgson; and a daughter, Jacqueline Mock.
