SOLDIER, Iowa -- Myrna Melby, 75, of Soldier passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Soldier Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jay Denne and the Rev. Jason Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Myrna was born May 16, 1935, in Dunlap, Iowa, the daughter of Wray and Marie (Rogers) Cline. She was raised in Dunlap and graduated from St. Joseph High School (Dunlap) in 1953. Later, Myrna was employed at Guarantee Mutual in Omaha.

Myrna and Francis Duane Melby were united in marriage on Feb. 20, 1954, in Omaha. The couple made their home in Dunlap and raised seven children. Duane passed away on Jan. 25, 2011, in Soldier.

Myrna was of the Catholic faith and attended Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier. She enjoyed her family and loved cooking, baking and making candy. She also enjoyed cross words.

Survivors include seven children, William Melby of Omaha, Sue Melby of Harcourt, Iowa, Pat (Betty) Melby of Dunlap, Jody (Marty) Heffernan of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Kelly Melby of Omaha, Bob (Sharon) Melby of Denison, Iowa, and Shelly Ullman of Mechanicsville, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Amber and Ashley Sturtz, Nick Melby, Kadie (Jeff) Yanak, Kyle Heffernan, Hanna Heffernan, Tyler Braasch, Dillon and Cody Melby, and Ben and Madison Ullman; three great-grandchildren, Abagail Melby and Zoey and Maggie Yanak; her siblings, Bill (Mitsuko) Cline of Oceanside, Calif., Ruthie (Curt) Cooney of Shelby, Iowa, Rich (Cathy) Cline of Dunlap, Rose (Stan) Ambrose of Dunlap, Marty (Evie) Cline of Moorhead, Iowa, and Joyce (Lenny) Kramer of Surprise, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Sharon (Bill) Markey of Lake Oswego, Ore.

In addition to her husband, Duane, she was preceded in death by her parents, Wray and Marie Cline; grandparents, Ruth and P.M. Rogers; and a brother, Tom Cline.
