MAPLETON, Iowa -- Christopher L. Divis, 26, of Sioux City, formerly of Mapleton, died suddenly Sunday, March 6, 2011, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Dr. Klaus Raab officiating. Burial will in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military rites provided by the 185th Base Honor Guard. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. The family requests that those attending the visitation proudly wear their Chicago Bears or Iowa Hawkeye apparel, teams Chris closely followed.

Christopher Louis Divis was born July 31, 1984, in Sioux City. Chris attended Maple Valley Anthon-Oto High School and graduated in the class of 2002. While in high school, Chris worked as a certified nurse's aid, and most recently was training to become a licensed practical nurse at Western Iowa Technical Community College. Employed at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, he worked as a technical aid in Post Critical Care. Staff Sergeant Divis served his country in the Iowa Air National Guard, as a member of the 185th Refueling Wing. He served both in the state of Iowa, as well as overseas in Qatar and Kyrgyzstan.

A talented musician, he was a former member of the band Ball5, and was currently in The Fourth Floor. He also recorded solo under the pseudonyms Acoutic Me and Face 4 Radio. His music was heard on 89.7 The River and Z-98.

Survivors include his mother, Patty Sanderson, and stepfather, Tim Sanderson of Mapleton; his father, Steve Divis, and stepmother, Dixie Divis of Great Bend, Kan.; stepfather and his wife, Phil and Cindy Jacobson of Eldorado, Kan.; siblings, Jason Divis and his wife, Stephanie and their son, Logan of Topeka, Kan., Brittney Gray and her husband, Wesley and their children, Terrance and Jersey of Ute, Iowa, Bryce and Jared Divis of Great Bend, Kan., Christina Anderson and her husband Mike and their children Dylan and Braden of Sioux Falls, S.D., Tim Sanderson and his wife Jen and their child Dakota of Minnesota, Kenton and Darin Jacobson of Mapleton, and Shaun Billmeier of Carroll, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Charles and Donna Kraymborg of Fort Worth, Texas; paternal grandmother, Bev Divis of Sioux City; paternal stepgrandparents, Darrell and Colleen Rexwinkle of Great Bend; his girlfriend, Sam Torres of Sioux City; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Christopher was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard Divis; paternal stepgrandfather, Lavera Jacobson; cousin, Joseph Milner; uncle, Kevin Kraymborg; uncle, Jay Bettin; cousin, Anthony Schumann; maternal stepgrandparents, M. C. and Mildred Sanderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family will later develop a memorial fund.
