ONAWA, Iowa -- Robert E. Jewell, 78, Onawa passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Blair Cemetery, Blair, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com.

Robert Edwin was born May 17, 1932, in Fairfax, S.D., the son of Charles and Helen (Berg) Jewell. The family moved to Fremont, Neb., where he graduated at Fremont High School.

Bob worked at Safeway Grocery Store in Fremont before moving to Minneapolis. While in Minneapolis, he was employed at Kroger Food and also managed Earl Brown Apartments. In later years, he worked at MCI in Sergeant Bluff.

Bob was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa and was very active on the church council and Good Shepherd Lutheran in Fremont.

Survivors include his son and his wife, Brian and Shelley Jewell of McCook Lake, S.D.; four grandchildren, Devin, Wade, Morgan and Zane; a sister and her husband, Gwen and Bill Rasmussen of Blair; a sister-in-law, Jan Jewell of Trivole, Ill.; his stepfather, Ralph Brown of Blair; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lillian Whitehorn of Onawa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Don C. and Gerald E. who died in infancy.
