4 April 2011ONAWA, Iowa -- Rubye Pittman, 92, of Onawa passed away April 2, 2011, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Rush Family Care Service, with John Sears officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Township Cemetery at Albaton, Iowa.
Rubye Maye Pittman was born Nov. 29, 1918, at Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Flora (Irwin) Shupe. She was also raised by her stepmother, Alta. The family lived by the Fairview Township Cemetery at Albaton, Iowa. She attended country school and later graduated from Sloan High School.
Rubye and Glen Pittman were united in marriage and farmed north of Sloan until the late 60s when they farmed at Grand Meadows, east of Kingsley, Iowa. They retired in the mid-70s in Onawa. Glen passed away March 23, 2002, at Onawa.
Rubye will be remembered as an excellent cook. She was quite talented and enjoyed painting, sewing and cake decorating. She was a member of First Christian Church at Onawa.
Survivors include a son, Carlie Pittman of Sioux City; a daughter, Glenda Koenig; three grandchildren, David Koenig, Diane Harris and Annette Riley; four great-grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters, Betty Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Duane of Omaha, Neb., Donald of Tucson, Ariz., Gary of Sioux City, Mary MacInery of Sioux Falls, S.D., Vera Copple of Sloan, Iowa, Margaret Bauman of Sioux City, Richard of Tucson, Nancy Sheely of Larrabee, Iowa, and Debra Paulsen of South Sioux City.
In addition to her husband, Glen, she was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Alta; and eight brothers and sisters, James, Raymond, Edgar, Evonne Baker, Robert, Phyllis Bauer Howard and Ernest.
